One of Madison's best bands also happens to be a cover band, featuring an eclectic collection of tunes. For the basement show you can count on pedal steel, upright bass, and keyboards. Like the first robin, the Low Czars at KHoRM means spring is coming.

I don't usually book artists I haven't seen, but when it's someone like Ben Sollee, well known for both his cello and his political activism, I couldn't say no. His mission statement says it all, "I’m a musician and my mission is to create experiences to grow a greater sense of togetherness."

Pieta's shows have a magical quality. Her voice is enchanting and her songs are bewitching poetry. And then there are the stories, from her very rural upbringing to working with people like JJ Cale and Mark Knopfler. It is always a delight to welcome her to the basement.

It's hard to believe, but the Silos are turning 40 this year. The line-up has shifted some over the years, but the one constant is Walter Salas-Humara, a great singer, songwriter and storyteller. Also a terrific human being with the best smile in music. This will be a full band show featuring Jonathan Rundman as well as longtime drummer Konrad Meissner.

Scott Ligon is a musician's musician. He's played in many, many bands, including the Flat Five, the Western Elstons, and is the driving force behind the latest version of NRBQ. But surprisingly he's never played a solo show before. He says he can't think of a better place to do it.

Whitney Mann took a break from playing to raise a family, but now she's back and she hasn't lost a beat. A show at Cafe Carpe last year proved that her voice is better than ever, and her intelligence and honesty shone. It's been a decade since she's been in the basement, and I'm looking forward to welcoming her back.

It feels a bit like lightning striking twice. Since Joe Pernice last visited, he released the very excellent Pernice Brothers record Who Will You Believe featuring many of the songs he previewed at KHoRM. Don't wait, this show will likely fill up fast.

Our first outdoor concert of 2025! Tim Grimm is a Renaissance man in the performing arts world, forging a rich and varied career that blends his love of songwriting, travel, and acting in theatre, film and television. For most of his 25-year career as a storytelling balladeer in the tradition of John Prine, Woody Guthrie, and Bob Dylan, Tim has written primarily about community, history, family, and social issues - often framed by his strong sense of place and the many years he spent on the family farm he built in rural Indiana. His songs are filled with rural characters and landscapes, written and sung with vivid warmth and intimacy. We love Tim's music and so will you.
