Carrie Elkin

Mad Folk searched for a venue for this show but could not find one available. Carrie Elkin is a soulful singer with a gypsy spirit, and a songwriter with a keen eye. Inspired by her travels and the many places she has called home, she documents the human condition with sensitivity and humor, crafting songs that have garnered attention at prestigious songwriting contests. Carrie is a born performer with an infectious energy that cannot be contained.

Tommy Keene & Ivan Julian

This will be Tommy's fourth visit to the house, so I don't need to tell you who he is, but this will be Ivan Julian's first time.  Julian was a founding member of Richard Hell & the Vovoids, the Outsets (which Tommy auditioned for) and the Lovelies.  He's also played with the Clash, the Isley Brothers and Matthew Sweet.  The most remarkable part is that he is back on the road after beating the stage III gastrointestinal cancer he was diagnosed with a year and a half ago. Keene and Julian will each play a solo set and then play a few songs together at the end of the show.

Kinky Friedman

Kinky Friedman is a singer, a songwriter, a novelist, a humorist, and a politician.  He toured with Bob Dylan on the Rolling Thunder Review tour.  He taped a segment of Austin City Limits that never aired (the producer claims it was a great show, just too offensive).  He ran for governor of Texas in 2006 (which earned him a 60 Minutes segment, which did air).  He was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live in 1975.  And in May his Resurrection tour stops at the House of Righteous Music.  I still can't believe it.

Marla Fibish & Bruce Victor as Noctambule

NOCTAMBULE offers original and traditional music in a variety of forms, joining together poetry they have set to music, instrumental pieces, and traditional Irish tunes and songs. Their music is alive with lush beauty, sensitivity, and humor on guitars in creative tunings, mandola, mandolin, bouzouki, cittern, accordion, tenor guitar, and their blended voices. THE WAKING, their newest release, features poetry-set-to-music along with some instrumental tracks. The poems, from Roethke, Auden, Hughes, Plath, Benet, and others, explore the vicissitudes, the inscrutability, and the ultimately indomitable nature of time.  Their previous album, the critically acclaimed TRAVEL IN THE SHADOWS, explores forms of the "night journey" in song, offering travelers the opportunity to see and experience the world differently once the usual sources of light subside. Sample tracks, videos and more at www.noctambulemusic.com.

House Concert
Host: David Wallner and Anne Katz

The Birds of Chicago

Our favorite duo, The Birds of Chicago, return to Our House for an encore show. JT Nero and Allison Russell offer a unique musical mix of folk, country, gospel and R&B. JT's rough-edged vocals, reminiscent of a young John Prine, blend perfectly with Allison's gorgeous gospel and bluesy voice. It's a unique joyful sound full of light and shadows, dark melancholy and joy. Don't miss this dynamic duo!

Bill Camplin and Randy Sabien

Bill and Randy played at Our House a few years ago and they put on a fantastic show. They're back on tour this summer, and we jumped at the chance to get them back. Randy is one of the best violin and mandolin players in the Midwest, bar none. He's a bluesy, jazzy player reminiscent of the great Stephanne Grappelli. You might know Camplin as the owner of the much-loved Cafe Carp in Ft. Atkninson. But he's also an outstanding songwriter and guitar picker. The two together will make some musical magic. Don't miss out on hearing this dynamite duo.
