Who We are
Thank you for visiting with Mad Folk, a non-profit society dedicated to fostering folk music in the Madison area!
Mad Folk presents concerts (see EVENTS below) and we also publish a monthly
newsletter full of information about relevant music and dance events. Revenues are derived solely from memberships and concert ticket sales, plus special gifts from members and others.
Events
Mad Folk puts on a series of concerts, a periodic festival, special summer events, and sometimes run education programs in conjunction with the University of Wisconsin. The regular Mad Folk concert series runs September through May. (See the ARCHIVES area for general idea of what we do during the acadamic year.) During the summer there are special programs offered such as Folk on State (free concerts held downtown in Madison on Saturday afternoons), plus periodic sing-along events and concerts at some of our area state parks.
In addition to "official" Mad Folk events, some members of Mad Folk host house concerts from time to time, and those will be shown on our web site schedule. (See the HOUSE CONCERTS page for more details on house concerts.) Events other than those sponsored by Mad Folk and house concerts hosted by our members are included in our print newsletter, mailed to all members.
Leadership
Mad Folk is governed by a Board of
Directors elected by the membership, and is operated entirely on a volunteer basis. A listing of Mad Folk Board members and other leaders is available on the Contact MFMS page. Mad Folk holds an annual meeting each fall, during
which elections are held. Nominations from within the membership are very welcome! Copies of Mad Folk's Articles of Incorporation and its Bylaws are available to members on request. Contact Mad Folk to make such a request.
